Announced on 2020 models, the 2021 RAM 1500 will continue to offer the available Multifunction Tailgate. Unique in its structure, the tailgate provides 60 / 40 Split Swing-Away doors, which opens to an 88-degree angle. This allows those towing a vehicle to utilize the tailgate without the worry of damage, allowing access to the rear to pack or unpack when needed. Not only that, but the tailgate can continue to function as a proper tailgate when lifted down. When using this, it can handle up to 2,000 lbs on it despite its functionality as a smaller door.
